Abstract

This paper explores a model for teaching leadership in the undergraduate business curriculum by
integrating theory, the leader-exemplar, assessment, and reflection. Rather than a textbook
oriented leadership course, or a leader-speaker series without theoretical foundation, this
integrated model invites students to explore their own leadership futures and reinforces program
objectives and mission. The leader-exemplars both in and out of the classroom tell stories, reflect
on lessons learned, and give personal voice to leadership theory. Students (a) integrate learning
through assessment and reflection, (b) identify themes across theory and practice, and (c)
experience moments of self-discovery and develop leadership goals.
